Cultured
I'm currently embracing fall colors, layers, tights, and closed toed shoes. In the fall I always like soft creamy pieces and heavy jewelry. This cardigan is a bit of a fall staple for the past few years, but currently I'm craving pullover sweaters with that perfect slightly over sized fit. Today I plan to thrift for a few of those and manipulate them into some things that came to mind as I was falling asleep last night.

Sun Set for Lolita
I went for a very mild Gothic Lolita look yesterday. I have always loved to throw boots on with something ultra girly. These patent Doc's are my newest acquisition and I have had them glued to my feet for the past few days. With the weather changing, I am enjoying thigh high socks, boots and sleeves. Fall is by far my favorite time of year, as elusive as the season may be. This dress was a special purchase made while I was staying in New York, from Think Closet. Think closet is a fun boutique with a whimsical selection of dresses and such. I remember trying on 4 wondrous dresses and knowing I could only afford to leave with one. The sales girl said, and my mom and aunt agreed that my smile was biggest when I tried on this one.

Chris Benz
I can't say I'm an avid follower of what is going down during fashion weeks, there is always too much to look at. But I do like to click around at random collections and check out my usual favorites to see what catches my fancy. I can get with the colorful pops and 40's references that seem to be showing themselves for spring. A collection that particularly caught my eye is Chris Benz. I like the 40's cut long pencil skirts and tied blouses, paired with 60's/ 90's prints and color blocking. But over all it isn't the pieces themselves that attract me, instead it's the styling done for this shoot. The placement of random props and color blocked curtains, the match up of vintage-y dresses and maxi skirts with trainers, they layered jewelry, and post of all the unbuckled platform heels.

StyleLikeU
StyleLikeU is a site I really enjoy. Although at times I feel ridiculous at the amount of emotion I put into style, I guess its comforting that their is others who attach maybe too much value to it. I've been really connecting to the site lately out of a great deal of confusion about what I am doing in my life. I have just put in thousands, and I mean big thousands of dollars into an "education" for a degree that is feeling rather meaningless. I am trying to measure up my personality next to my dreams and I feel like I am coming up short. A degree in fashion marketing... I don't really know what it means. I am realizing lately that my interest in fashion itself is pretty minimal .I don't care that much what designers are designing. I mean sure there's designs I like and ones I don't but I don't really have many brand connections and I could care less if I am ever wearing designer clothing. I think really what fascinates me is style. All that goes into forming a persons style. Upbringing, books, religious beliefs, art... whatever it is. I'm not interested in people who look perfectly pulled together in one brand, but in people who know how to express a story of who they are just by getting dressed in the morning. I keep applying for jobs that I know I wouldn't be happy doing because my self expression would be diminished by my environment. My dream to do editorial styling still reigns because of all these things, but I have a feeling that certain elements of my personality will always be holding me back from what I want.
Honestly all I intended to do in this post was to share this video from StyleLikeU of artist Louise Sturges, that may be my favorite on there, but somehow all that happened... Here is the video.
