Cats and pastels

I am always annoyed when websites change things for really no good reason. The changes don't often make it worse necesarily but, rarely better either. One thing that has consistintly always annoyed me is that the updater gets confused my the simpilist comands. Mainly "NOOOO I am clicking my cursour ABOVE the picture OBVIOUSLY because I want to type ABOVE the picture!" Sorry this just bothers me everytime I update. Normaly I manage to move it up there but right now I am not even in the mood to fight it out. I took these photos a few days ago. This is the outfit I wore to see Cults. They were really fun live, but I realised I must be out of the indie music scene when the show was populated by bros and bar girls. I am pretty into this punk corset thing I thrifted and Value World last time I was in Michigan. It was a bit tricky to outfit  it ad not look... well just odd. I like it paired back with these high waist black shorts and gray tee. Also, aren't my kitten nails cute?

Neon Fade, Neon Bright

Apologies for the overload of photos of the same outfit. We just got so many great ones I couldn't choose! Yeah I'm vein, but I have come to terms with that. The light of day was just about to disapear but we cought it just in time. It was been so glorious out these last couple days, I don't remember a arch like this since... ever. A week or so ago I discovered a new favorite thrift spot. The Village Discount Outlet in ogan Square. I had been there before, about 4 years ago by recomendation of a classmate, but when I found nothing I guess I wrote it off imediatly. On about a monthy basis I visit the Roscoe Village location. When I finaly gave Logan another chance it paid off big time. I bought this button up in a kind of faded neon shade and this neon green jersey skirt (among other treasures.) As I was shopping I knew they needed to be paired together. The shirt is amazing with the little woden buttons and frayed collor and pockets. It is all in the detail. And I don't even know if I want to talk about me feelings about these Asos glasses as I think they affection I feel makes me sound even more absolutly crazy than I already do.

HAIR!

I think one is expected to play with hair color during teen years. In high school though, I kept my hair long and brown. Except one time when I put in that semi-permanent purple foam dye, which really made my hair red as I didn't bleach it first or anything.
Inspired by one to many editorial of pastel and/or rainbow hair, I had to try it for myself. My sisters helped me do this while I was in Detroit over the weekend, and I retouched the color a bit the other night. I have to say I am highly enjoying my color experimentation. Althogh, it is making dressing difficult as I feel that everything I put on has to play off my hair.
Also while back in Detroit I had a couple killer thrift trips. My sister and my mom are my favorite thrifting partners because they share my patience. I found these late 90's/early 2000's Silver bell bottoms that fit the exact criteria I have been searching for, for over a year. Meaning tight to the knee then big flare, and high waist. Woo!

Color combo

Mmmm orange and lavender. Absolute favorite color combination. Yesterday I went on a Salvation Army dig with Liz. A very solid thrifting partner, we found lots and lots of good finds. I was hesitant about this sweater but turns out I like it a lot. It is super cozy and quite soft. I loved the semi cropped as well as semi over-sized look of it. I tried to pair it with a lavender velvet tank I also thrifted pulled down as a skirt, alas it looked silly. I opted for this sheer feather printed slip. The fun hippy-dippy quilt scarf was also one of yesterdays finds. More to show soon!

Cultured

I'm currently embracing fall colors, layers, tights, and closed toed shoes. In the fall I always like soft creamy pieces and heavy jewelry. This cardigan is a bit of a fall staple for the past few years, but currently I'm craving pullover sweaters with that perfect slightly over sized fit. Today I plan to thrift for a few of those and manipulate them into some things that came to mind as I was falling asleep last night.

The Lace Flare

About a year ago when I first saw the black lace flares from Bona Drag featured on fashiontoast, I fell into a sort of style love spell. I had a major if only moment. If only I could justify such a splurge. When a similar pair arrived on the Free People site for a similarly out of reach price I fell again for their glory. The other day on a jaunt to Salvation Army, a trip even out of my current budget, I found a bit of glory with a green $5.00 price tag stapled to the waistband. Oh my lace flares! True they were lined with a terrible nylon lining but that was an easy fix. Snip, snip, et voila!
Although the "tabacco" colored ones from Free People are still tempting...

Back in Chicago

I have returned to the fair city of Chicago. Happy to drink a vanilla chai shake at The Pick Me Up and be in the presence of Midwestern manners. The words "excuse me" and "thank you" are nice to hear.

sunday lovely sunday

I must be off to work in just a miniute so this will be short and sweet. I had a nice simple weekend. On Sunday it was brunch with my roommates, homework, and off to a little meeting for my internship. Once home I cooked myself a yummy pasta and watched my favorite movie, The Science of Sleep, while sewing shag carpet trim on to a resale dress. I bought this sheer dress, tunic deal the other day at a resale shop in east village while running errands. I liked the way it layered over my planetary slip, and I have been living in these new boots. I haven't worn heels in ages.

yellow door

In my Brooklyn room, with a yellow door I stand as a temporary Brooklyn girl. I have relocated for a total6 week period to a neat Brooklyn apartment populated by lovely ladies. A quicker commute to work and a laid back, as well as delicious, atmosphere has been welcoming. This is my blah, blah, blog which simply says " I wore this today." Dressed in all this weekends Beacons Closet haul  along with old favorites.

no creepin'

I think to often about things I saw at thrift stores and once and didn't buy. It is too silly but I hear myself saying "$3 you couldn't pay a measly $3 for that amazingly amazing skirt!!!??" Really, I should just let it go. There will be others. But I present you with another regret. Once while thrifting with my favorite thrift partner, Chelsea, I picked up a pair of black leather creepers with a wood sole. I remember the trip so specifically because it was a good one, plus it was documented on the old style diary. I don't think I even knew what creepers were at the time, but these shoes were just so weird and different that I needed them in my life. Creepers purchased. I never knew how to wear them, so I didn't. Went off to college, did not bring them with me. I have no recollection of getting rid of them just leaving them home. Nonetheless the shoes are gone, and I must get past this. Every once in a while the cross the mind and I head to my old style diary to bask in their glory.
