the fruits of days off

Despite the financial burden, four days off of work is a kind of nice thing. Everything has been slow going, but after three days I have a clean apartment, some cute baked goods, the beginnings of an inspiration book, and some finished clothing alterations that had been put off for months and even years. Oh and currently watching The Science of Sleep for the 100th time.

 Cupcake size pumpkin pies

 Shortened vintage dress

The sleeves on this dress were really big which made it look frumpy. It is much better now that I look the sleeves in.

fur hat just needed some weird ties cut out of it.

This skirt was a kids dress now its just for me!

Wild surprise

This is nothing new really. I had seen some pieces from the brand Wildfox before but I guess I never really took note of the ones that are.... well really awesome. The fall collection takes a sort of humorous look at 70's cliches. I think as I started looking at their clothing, I thought cliche, that turned me off at first, like I could picture celebrities I don't care about walking around LA with once of these t-shirts and a Starbucks latte. I was won over by plenty of skeletons and some spot on catalog styling.

Top of the list? Someone please purchase me the skeleton tie-dye sweater.

The fortress

"A blanket fort is a construction commonly made using blankets, bed sheets, pillows, and sofa cushions.[1] It is also known as a couch fort, pillow fort or sheet fort. Many activities can take place in a blanket fort, such as reading, playing board games, or watching a movie. Blanket forts can be enjoyed by all ages, including teenagers and young adults.[4]" -Wikipedia on blanket forts.

In boredness and creativity we built a blanket fort over our bed. It creates a small wonderful world in which we sleep and dream. A temporary escape to a childish state of mind. It is amazing for a moment to wake inside of this cave and feel silly and awake until I snap back to the reality that my alarm is still going off and it's time to get ready for work. I played dress-up as queen of the fortress in layers and a hand strung pearl crown.

Mimic

I am constantly collecting imagery that inspires me. I usually save inspiration as I troll through blogs on my phone. All the information gets lost, but I'm left with pictures at my fingertips which I can scroll through in the morning on lackluster days when my imagination isn't feeling entirely up to the challenge of dressing. Typically I just take some element or concept from the photos to get my mind moving, but sometimes I take things more literally. This is that kind of  situation.

Been waring my Doc Martens quite constantly and the wind keeps trying to steal my hat.

Bittersweet little romper

Tee Hee. Just having Photoshop fun because I did not actually accomplish any worthwhile self portraits of this outfit.  I was oh so excited when I saw this little blue velvet romper hanging in Forever 21. I decided today to wear it a little grunged up with my trusty flannel and Docs. The bittersweet part I mentioned in this title? My sweet little romper nearly ripped to pieces while taking these photos. The fabric and seams tore all up the crotch and a hole in the bum. Not to mention the rip that occurred in the side seem within the first 2 hours of work today. Quite a disappointing turn of events. Now I know Forever 21 is not synonymous with quality, but really? I purchased this yesterday. How embarrassing if one were to wear this out to a party and have this happen.

Cultured

I'm currently embracing fall colors, layers, tights, and closed toed shoes. In the fall I always like soft creamy pieces and heavy jewelry. This cardigan is a bit of a fall staple for the past few years, but currently I'm craving pullover sweaters with that perfect slightly over sized fit. Today I plan to thrift for a few of those and manipulate them into some things that came to mind as I was falling asleep last night.
